What to Expect During Pool Installation

Above ground pools are a wonderful addition to many homes. They come in a wide variety of sizes and shapes to suit just about any yard. They are more cost-effective than in-ground pools, and they offer a great option for summertime recreation and fun. What barbecue isn’t improved by having people bring their swim suits and go for a dip? Many people are concerned, however, about what is involved in the process of installing the above ground pool. Knowing what to expect during pool installation can save you a lot of worry and stress.

Pool Installation: DIY or Pro?

Many people decide to do it on their own when installing a pool. While this can ostensibly save you money in the short term, it’s not always a good idea. There are a lot of pitfalls that can come into play during installing your pool, and a single misstep can result in disaster. In the end, you’ll save money in mistakes and getting it right when you hire a professional pool installation company to handle the process. Your pool will also likely last you much longer when installed by a professional.

Excavation

People usually think of excavation as something that has to be done during in-ground pools, but there’s a degree of this that has to happen for an above ground pool as well. The ground needs to be perfectly smooth and level, and a layer of packed sand has to be laid down over the area to provide a solid base for the pool that will still feel comfortable on the feet of those walking over the floor.

The area has to be surveyed so that the best location can be chosen. An area somewhat larger than the size of the pool is then cleared out and made completely free of grass, sticks, rocks or items that could puncture the lining. The area is then leveled out and a layer of plastic ground cloth laid flat over the excavated area.

Liner and Construction

Next, the pool liner is laid down and stretched taut. It must be as smooth as possible with all wrinkles removed. This is vital because once the pool is up and assembled it is very hard (nigh impossible) to smooth it further, and problems can result. Next, the frame and structure are put together, raised and connected to the liner, and the pool filled with water. The process is exacting as the pool must be smooth and completely level.

Finally, the hoses and pumps are constructed as the pool is filled, and the steps and ladder put together. The water is then tested to ensure the proper pH balance, and you will be educated on the manufacturer’s recommendations for care and management of the pool moving forward. Congratulations! You’ve got a brand new pool.
