Close your Mississippi pool with a chemical treatment this Fall!
If your winters are mild or if you don’t want to drain your pool for the winter, you can consider a chemical treatment instead. There are certain chemicals available that will maintain your pool throughout the winter and prevent it from freezing over. Using these chemicals can be much easier than the alternatives, but you should still keep a few things in mind.
What Does Chemical Pool Treatment Do?
Chemical pool treatments consist of a simple product that you pour into your pool per the quantities listed in the directions. There are many brands of winter pool treatment, but most of them work in similar ways. They protect the pool equipment and the pool interior from any damage due to the weather while allowing the pool to be opened immediately when the weather gets warmer. Many of these chemical treatments also prevent the buildup of algae and the stagnation of the water.
Things to Remember When Using Winter Treatments
If you choose to leave your pool filled and treated throughout the winter, you should invest in an extremely stable cover. The water in the pool will still be extremely cold, and it can pose a serious health hazard to children and even adults within the home. If you have small children or if your backyard is open to your children, you may want to consider draining the pool entirely during winter instead.
Chemical pool treatments convey some benefits: you don’t need to protect your pipes against freezing and you don’t have to empty out your entire pool. However, emptying your pool can also be beneficial as well. Emptying your pool gives you the opportunity to inspect your pool and ensure that it is still operating correctly and in good condition. Even if you do decide to chemically treat your pool, you may want to have routine maintenance and chemical balancing done after the cold season has passed.
